Котедж “Барвінок” is a real gem for those seeking an authentic Hutsul experience in the heart of the Carpathians. Located on Zhab’yevska street, this three-star cottage immediately catches your attention with its traditional architecture and cozy atmosphere. When I arrived in Verkhovyna last summer, the hosts greeted me with homemade horilka and freshly baked bread — I immediately knew this would be a special vacation. The rooms are decorated in Hutsul style with handcrafted wooden furniture and bright carpets, and the windows offer incredible mountain views. Parking is free right next to the cottage, which is very convenient, especially when you’re bringing lots of gear for mountain hikes.
The cottage’s location is perfect for exploring the surroundings — it’s just a 10-minute walk to central Verkhovyna, and the nearest hiking trails start literally 500 meters away. The hosts (a very friendly family) are happy to share local traditions and recommend the best routes depending on the season. Winter here is especially magical — snow lies in thick layers, and in the evenings you can warm up by a real fireplace with crackling wood. The only thing to keep in mind — the walls are quite thin, so if neighbors are active, you might hear conversations, but this adds authenticity rather than being bothersome.
The breakfasts here are worth mentioning separately! Homemade cheeses, their own brynza, aromatic bread and Hutsul coffee create the perfect start to the day before heading into the mountains. The price is more than fair for this level of hospitality and comfort. This cottage has fully earned its 8.0 rating — it’s the kind of place you want to return to again and again, especially if you’re looking for a genuine Carpathian atmosphere without unnecessary pretension.
