The location is brilliant if you know Zakopane at all. Jaszczurówka is this quiet residential area where actual locals live, not just rental properties stuffed with tour groups. You can walk to the Jaszczurówka Chapel in about five minutes – that’s the wooden one everyone photographs but most tourists never actually visit because it’s slightly off the beaten path. The house itself has this traditional highlander architecture that doesn’t feel forced or touristy, probably because it’s a real villa that’s been converted rather than some purpose-built hotel trying too hard to look authentic. I mean, you’ll notice the wood smells right when you walk in, that kind of aged pine scent that you only get in buildings that have actually been around for a while.

What really sold me was the breakfast situation – they serve it in this cozy dining room with windows that look out toward the Tatras, and the host (I think she’s the owner) actually asks what you’re planning to do that day and gives you proper local advice. Not the generic “visit Krupówki” stuff, but real recommendations like which trails are less crowded in the morning or where to get the best oscypek cheese. The rooms are comfortable without being fancy – think clean, warm, with decent WiFi and those thick Polish comforters that make you want to sleep in. Parking is right there, which is huge in Zakopane where finding a spot near your accommodation can be a nightmare, especially during ski season. The only minor thing is that the walls are a bit thin, so if you’re a light sleeper and there’s a family with kids next door, you might hear them – but honestly, it’s usually pretty quiet since most guests seem to be either couples or small groups who aren’t there to party.
