You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Wysokie Łąki on Sanatoryjna Street – I mean, it’s tucked away in this quiet part of Kowary that most tourists never see. But honestly, that turned out to be exactly what made it special. These mountain cabins sit right where the town starts melting into the Karkonosze foothills, and there’s something almost magical about waking up to those views without the usual crowd of hikers tramping around at dawn.
The whole setup feels authentically Polish in the best way possible. The owners clearly know this area inside and out – they’ll casually mention which trails are muddy after rain (pretty much all of them in spring, just so you know) and where to grab the best zapiekanka in town. The cabins themselves are properly cozy without being cramped, and I loved that each one feels slightly different. Mine had this little wooden deck where I’d sit with morning coffee, watching the mist roll off the mountains. The heating actually works well too, which – if you’ve stayed in mountain accommodations before – you’ll appreciate more than you might expect. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night. Sure, you’re still technically in town, but Sanatoryjna Street doesn’t get much traffic, and the sound of wind through the pines sort of drowns out everything else anyway.
I mean, look, it’s not luxury – it’s a solid 3-star place and feels like one. But that 9.8 rating makes total sense when you consider what you’re actually getting. The owners are genuinely helpful (they helped me figure out bus connections to Szklarska Poręba without making me feel like an idiot), the cabins are clean and well-maintained, and the location gives you this perfect balance of accessibility and mountain peace. If you’re planning to explore the Sudetes or just want somewhere to decompress that doesn’t cost a fortune, this place delivers exactly what it promises. Plus, parking is easy and free – which anyone who’s driven around Polish mountain towns in summer will tell you is basically worth its weight in gold.
