Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Willawil on Prusa Street – I mean, it’s tucked away in this quiet residential area of Karpacz, and from the outside it looks almost too understated. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place special. The owner clearly gets that travelers are tired of cookie-cutter hotels, and they’ve created something that feels more like staying at a really well-designed friend’s house than some corporate property.
The location is actually perfect if you know Karpacz at all. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the main tourist drag with all the restaurants and souvenir shops, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with crowds of people wandering around at all hours. I could hear the mountain breeze through the trees at night instead of traffic, which was honestly refreshing after spending time in busier parts of the Sudetes. The staff – and I think the owner was there when I checked in – really knows the area. They gave me these specific hiking recommendations that I never would have found online, including this lesser-known trail that connects to the Sniezka route but skips most of the tourist bottleneck at the bottom.
What really impressed me was the attention to small details that you don’t usually see. The rooms have these thick curtains that actually block out light (revolutionary concept, right?), and the beds are firm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand. The bathroom had one of those rainfall showerheads that actually has decent water pressure – I’ve stayed at places three times the price where the shower feels like a light mist. Parking was straightforward too, which matters more than people realize when you’re driving mountain roads all day and just want to collapse somewhere safe. The breakfast setup was simple but done right – local breads, good coffee, and they had these small-batch jams that I’m pretty sure came from somewhere nearby. Nothing fancy, but everything tasted like someone actually cared about sourcing it properly.
I stayed there during shoulder season in late spring, so I can’t speak to what it’s like during peak summer or winter ski season, but the whole operation felt solid and thoughtful. The kind of place where a 9.3 rating makes sense because they’re not trying to be everything to everyone – they’re just really good at being a comfortable, authentic base for exploring this part of Poland. If you’re the type of traveler who values genuine local character over flashy amenities, and you want to actually experience Karpacz rather than just pass through it, Willawil gets it right.
