But this little gem sits in this perfectly quiet residential pocket where you can actually hear yourself think, which is saying something in Zakopane during peak season.

The building itself tells you everything you need to know about why it’s called “1890” – it’s got that classic Zakopane highland villa vibe with the carved wooden details and steep-pitched roof that locals call góralski style. I mean, it’s not trying to be some modern glass box, thank god. The rooms are what you’d call cozy rather than sprawling (this isn’t a resort, after all), but they’re done up with enough traditional touches that you remember where you are. The wooden floors creak just enough to feel authentic without being annoying, and the windows actually open – revolutionary concept, right? What really got me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re only a ten-minute walk from the main drag where everyone’s stumbling around looking for oscypek and beer.

The location is actually brilliant once you figure it out. Sure, you’re not right in the thick of Krupówki’s madness, but that’s the point – you can walk there in minutes when you want the energy, then retreat back to this peaceful little street when you’ve had enough of the crowds. More importantly, if you’re here for the mountains (and why else would you be in Zakopane?), you’re perfectly positioned for the cable car up to Kasprowy Wierch or the funicular to Gubałówka without fighting through the town center traffic. The staff seem to actually live here rather than just work here, if you know what I mean – they’ll point you toward the hiking trails that aren’t completely overrun and tell you which oscypek vendors are worth your money versus the tourist traps. Parking’s included, which honestly saves you a headache and probably twenty złoty a day, especially if you’re here in summer when finding a spot near the center is like winning the lottery. Look, it’s a solid three-star place that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, but it nails everything that actually matters when you’re using Zakopane as your base for exploring the Tatras.
