Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Willa U Jerzego on Skalna Street – I mean, Karpacz has plenty of guesthouses, and from the outside this one looks pretty understated. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to show off. The moment I walked through the door, I got that immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place, which is honestly refreshing after staying at so many cookie-cutter hotels.
The location is what really sold me though. Skalna Street is perfectly positioned – you’re literally a five-minute walk from the main drag where all the restaurants and shops are, but far enough up the hill that you escape the weekend crowds and those tour buses that clog up the center of town. I actually loved sitting on the little terrace in the morning with coffee, watching the early hikers head toward Śnieżka before the day gets crazy. The owners (and I’m pretty sure they live on-site) seem to know everyone in the neighborhood – they pointed me toward this amazing little bakery just around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and gave me the real scoop on which trails to hit early before they get packed.
What really impressed me was the attention to detail. The rooms aren’t huge, but everything works properly – and I mean everything. Hot water that’s actually hot, WiFi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, beds that don’t creak when you roll over. The breakfast spread was genuinely good too, not just the usual stale rolls and processed cheese you get at most places. They do this homemade jam situation that’s sort of addictive, and the coffee is strong enough to fuel a proper mountain hike. Parking was never an issue either, which in Karpacz during peak season is honestly a minor miracle. I stayed there in late September when the weather was still decent but the summer crowds had thinned out, and it felt like having a little slice of the mountains to myself. That 9.6 rating makes total sense – it’s one of those places where you can tell the owners actually want you to have a good time, not just process you through like cattle.
