I mean, a 9.4 rating doesn’t lie, but I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Szkolna Street in Milków – it’s this quiet residential area that feels more like where locals actually live than where tourists usually end up.

The location is actually pretty clever when you think about it. Milków sits right in that sweet spot between Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba, so you’re not dealing with the tourist circus of either resort town, but you can still hit the slopes or hiking trails in the Karkonosze mountains without much fuss. What I really appreciated was the genuine quiet here – like, you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of tour buses rumbling past your window. The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed mountain house than a typical hotel, which I suspect is exactly what Basia (the owner, I’m guessing?) was going for with the “u Basi” thing.

The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Polish mountain architecture – nothing flashy, but everything works exactly as it should. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (none of that overly formal hotel lobby nonsense), and I got the sense that people who stay here tend to be actual travelers rather than Instagram tourists. Parking was easy, which honestly matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling ski gear or hiking equipment around. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that you don’t get at chain places – I mean, someone clearly thought about what you’d actually need for a mountain stay rather than just checking boxes on some corporate amenity list. What really sold me was the attention to small stuff: proper blackout capability for those summer nights when it stays light forever, and heating that actually keeps up with January in the Sudetes. You’re close enough to pop over to Karpacz for dinner or shopping, but far enough out that you escape the weekend crowds that descend on the main tourist strips. If you’re the type who likes discovering places before they end up on every travel blogger’s “hidden gems” list, this is exactly that kind of spot.
