You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Willa Sonata on Kościelna Street – I mean, the name sounds fancy but the street itself is pretty quiet, tucked away from the main Karpacz bustle. But honestly, within five minutes of stepping inside, I got why this place has a 9.8 rating. It’s one of those boutique spots that doesn’t bother with star ratings because, well, they’re kind of doing their own thing entirely.
The whole place feels like someone’s incredibly stylish mountain home that they decided to share with travelers. I’m talking thick wooden beams, these gorgeous textile details that actually feel Polish (not some generic European hotel aesthetic), and windows that frame the Sudeten Mountains like living paintings. The owner – and you’ll probably meet them during your stay – clearly has an eye for design but also gets what travelers actually need. My room had this perfect reading nook by the window where I spent way too much time with morning coffee, watching the mist roll off the peaks. The beds are seriously comfortable too, which matters when you’ve been hiking around the Giant Mountains all day. There’s something about the lighting in the evenings that makes everything feel warm and intimate, almost like you’re staying in a really well-designed cabin.
What really sets Willa Sonata apart though is how it sits in Karpacz – you’re close enough to walk to the main tourist bits (the cable car to Śnieżka is maybe a 15-minute stroll), but Kościelna Street itself stays quiet even during peak season. I actually loved coming back here after dealing with the crowds at Wang Church or the ski lifts. The breakfast situation is fantastic – they do this spread of local specialties alongside the standard stuff, and I mean really good local cheese and bread, not tourist trap versions. Parking was easy too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Karpacz in summer will appreciate. If I’m being completely honest, the only tiny issue was that the WiFi got a bit spotty during busy evening hours, but honestly? After a day in the mountains, I barely cared. This is the kind of place where you actually want to disconnect a bit anyway. The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find – like staying with friends who happen to have impeccable taste and live in one of Poland’s most beautiful mountain towns.
