Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Willa Paweł on Skalna Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 2-star place. I mean, we’re talking about a street that’s basically tucked into the hillside in Karpacz, and the building itself has that slightly weathered mountain lodge vibe you see all over this part of the Sudetes. But here’s the thing that caught me off guard: this place punches way above its weight class, and that 9.2 rating actually makes sense once you spend a night here.
The whole setup revolves around what they do best – and honestly, it’s right there in the name. That balia (the traditional wooden hot tub) and jacuzzi situation? It’s not just some afterthought amenity they threw in the backyard. The owners clearly put thought into this – the balia sits in this little private area where you can soak in hot water while looking up at the forest that basically starts right behind the property. You know what’s weird? I stayed there in late October, and even with the mountain air getting pretty crisp, sitting in that hot water with steam rising around you while the pine trees are swaying overhead… it’s actually kind of magical. The jacuzzi’s more conventional but well-maintained, and they keep both clean – which, let’s face it, isn’t always a given at smaller places.
What really won me over though was how the owners run things. Check-in was smooth (they speak decent English if your Polish is rusty like mine), and parking’s right there – no dragging luggage up mountain paths or fighting for street spots like you do closer to the main Karpacz strip. The rooms themselves are pretty basic, sure, but they’re clean and warm, with that pine-heavy scent that just comes with the territory in this part of Poland. I could hear the wind in the trees at night, but honestly it was more soothing than disruptive. You’re maybe a 10-minute walk from the main drag where all the restaurants and tourist stuff happens, but far enough up Skalna that you’re not dealing with the crowds stumbling around after dinner. I actually walked down to that little grocery store near the post office one morning – grabbed some local bread and coffee, brought it back, and had breakfast on the little terrace area. The whole experience felt more like staying at someone’s mountain cabin than a typical hotel, which I think is exactly what they’re going for. If you’re coming to Karpacz to hike Śnieżka or just decompress from city life, this place gets it right – simple, genuine, and that hot tub under the stars is going to be the highlight of your trip.
