The building itself has that classic Zakopane mountain style, all dark wood and steep rooflines, though it’s clearly been updated over the years (thank god, because the plumbing actually works great).

What really won me over was how the owners – and I’m pretty sure they live right there – seem to genuinely care about the place. Check-in was this refreshingly human experience where they actually asked about my plans and gave me proper local tips, not just the usual tourist traps. The room was… well, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect luxury, but everything was spotless and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. I actually slept better there than at some fancier hotels, maybe because Droga Do Olczy is far enough from the main Krupówki chaos that you don’t get the late-night party noise, but close enough that you can walk to everything in about 15 minutes. The morning view from my window – just regular Zakopane houses and gardens leading up toward the Tatras – felt more authentic than those picture-perfect mountain panoramas you see everywhere.

Here’s the thing that made me rate it so highly: it just works without any fuss. Parking is right there (huge deal in Zakopane, trust me), the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and there’s this little common area where people actually hang out and chat – I met a Polish family who gave me the best hiking recommendations I got all trip. The breakfast is simple but uses local ingredients, and honestly, sitting there in the morning with proper mountain air coming through the windows beats those stuffy hotel dining rooms any day. Sure, the decor is a bit dated and you might hear your neighbors occasionally, but for the price point and that genuine mountain guesthouse feel, Willa Majerczyk delivers exactly what it promises. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying with locals rather than just passing through as another tourist – and in a town that can feel pretty commercialized, that’s worth a lot.
