Overview
You know what struck me first about Willa Irena? It’s tucked away on Salamandra street in this perfect spot where you can actually hear the Tatra mountains calling – I mean that literally, the hiking trails are practically at your doorstep. Most people think Zakopane is the only way to experience this region, but honestly, staying in Kościelisko gives you that authentic mountain village vibe without all the tourist chaos.
The place feels like someone’s well-loved family home that just happens to welcome guests – which, knowing how these smaller Polish pensions work, it probably is. The rooms have this cozy mountain lodge thing going on without being overly rustic (you’ll still get proper WiFi and hot showers, thank god). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; you’re far enough from the main Zakopane madness but close enough that a quick drive gets you to Krupówki street if you want that whole bustling resort town experience. The staff actually knows the area – like, really knows it. They’ll tell you which trails are muddy after rain and where to get the best oscypek cheese without paying tourist prices.
Here’s the thing about this location that most visitors don’t realize until they’re here: you’re perfectly positioned for both the serious hiking crowd and the families who just want mountain air without the intensity. Morskie Oko is doable as a day trip, but you’ve also got gentler walks right from the hotel if your knees aren’t up for the full alpine experience. The breakfast situation is solid – proper mountain food that’ll fuel you for whatever outdoor adventure you’re planning, and they seem to understand that hikers need to eat early and eat well. Parking’s not an issue either, which honestly can be a nightmare in the more popular spots around here. The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re expecting spa resort amenities, this isn’t that kind of place – but if you want authentic mountain hospitality where the owners actually care about your experience rather than just processing you through, that’s exactly what Willa Irena delivers. The 9 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there.

Minden nagyon szép volt! A jakuzzi, a kandalló!

We stayed in this house for New Year's 2024. Everything was quite clean with plenty of space. For a group of 10 people, someone will have to sleep in the common room, which is not very comfortable. However, the house is perfectly suited for 8 people. Local souvenirs awaited us in each room, and there was a bottle of Moet in the fridge. The house has 3 bathrooms, all quite clean, with plenty of towels and robes. There's also a sauna (small, for 3-5 people, but it heats up quickly) and a ping-pong table. The garage and yard can accommodate 3 cars. The kitchen is clean and equipped with all necessary kitchenware. The view of Zakopane is very beautiful.
We were greeted very warmly, shown around the entire house, and asked for a deposit of 1000 zlotys.
However, at the end, during check-out, an unpleasant situation arose with the jacuzzi cover. Upon check-in, we were shown the jacuzzi and how it works, but during check-out, we were told that we had damaged the cover, which consists of styrofoam and a cover. We are not sure if it was really our fault, as visually it did not appear broken. During check-in, we couldn't see if it was damaged before us. When it was time to check out, the host intentionally went to the jacuzzi (as if he knew the location of the damage in advance) and discovered that the cover was broken (there was a crack in the styrofoam in the middle). We suspect that it was broken before our stay, as visually, it was difficult to notice the damage without prior knowledge. We only saw the damage after the host showed it to us. We were surprised and want to caution other tenants to check the jacuzzi cover. In the end, we paid 1500 zlotys for a new part, and we are not sure if it was really fair.
