Okay, so Willa Gubałówka Dream – honestly, the name had me a bit skeptical at first, but this place actually lives up to the hype. It’s perched right on Gubałówka Hill, which if you don’t know Zakopane well, is basically the spot where everyone goes for those postcard-perfect Tatra Mountain views. The thing is, most people just ride the funicular up for a quick photo and head back down, but staying right here? That’s the real move.
The location is sort of genius when you think about it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the funicular station, which means you can pop down to Krupówki (that’s the main tourist strip) whenever you want, but you’re far enough up the hill that you escape all the chaos. I mean, Zakopane gets absolutely packed during ski season and summer hiking months, and down in the town center it can feel like a carnival. Up here though, especially in the evenings, it’s surprisingly peaceful – you can actually hear the wind in the trees instead of just tour groups. The hotel itself has that mountain lodge vibe without being too rustic, you know? Clean lines, lots of wood and stone, but your room will have proper heating and a decent shower (trust me, after a day hiking in the Tatras, this matters more than you’d think).
What really got me was the breakfast situation – they actually know how to do oscypek properly, which is rare even in Zakopane. That’s the local smoked sheep cheese, and most hotels just buy the tourist version, but these guys source it from actual shepherds up in the mountains. The staff clearly knows the area too, not just the obvious stuff like Morskie Oko (which, yes, you should definitely see), but they pointed me toward some lesser-known trails that were absolutely worth it. Parking is included, which honestly saves you a headache since finding a spot down in town is basically impossible during peak times. The rooms are solid – nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable and most have balconies where you can sit with a beer and watch the sunset over the mountains. I stayed in autumn when the crowds thin out a bit, and there’s something magical about having coffee on that balcony when the morning mist is still hanging in the valleys. One small thing – the WiFi can be spotty during busy periods, but let’s be real, you’re here for the mountains, not to doom-scroll on your phone.
