Honestly, when I first saw the name “Wielka Krokiew Residence&SPA” plastered with all those amenities in caps, I thought it might be one of those places that promises everything but delivers mediocrity. I was wrong – this little gem tucked away on Bronisława Czecha street actually lives up to the hype, which is saying something for a 3-star place in Zakopane.

The location is what really got me. You’re literally a stone’s throw from the famous Wielka Krokiew ski jump (hence the name), and honestly, there’s something pretty cool about falling asleep to the sound of the wind through those towering pines instead of the usual Krupówki street chaos. The address might look intimidating if you don’t speak Polish, but any taxi driver knows exactly where ul. Czecha is – it’s that quiet residential street that somehow feels both secluded and perfectly connected. I mean, you can walk to the main drag in about fifteen minutes, but you’re far enough away that you’re not dealing with the weekend party crowds stumbling around at 2 AM.

What really sets this place apart though is that they’ve actually thought about what people want after a day of hiking or skiing. The sauna hits different when your legs are screaming from climbing up to Morskie Oko, and that salt graduation tower – the tężnia solankowa – is something you don’t see at every hotel. It’s basically this wall of blackthorn branches that drips salt water, and breathing near it after spending a day in Zakopane’s crisp mountain air is oddly addictive. The jacuzzi situation is solid too, though I’d recommend hitting it in the evening when it’s less crowded. During peak season (basically December through February, then again in summer), you might have to wait a bit, but the vibe is pretty relaxed so nobody’s really hovering.

The grill area caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way. There’s something satisfying about being able to cook your own kielbasa after a day out, especially when you’ve grabbed some local stuff from the market on Krupówki. The staff doesn’t hover, but they’re helpful when you need them, which feels refreshingly normal after staying at places where they’re either invisible or constantly asking if everything’s okay. Check-in was smooth, parking is actually free (not a given in Zakopane), and the rooms are clean without being sterile. Sure, it’s not luxury – the TV selection is limited and the Wi-Fi can be spotty during busy periods – but honestly, if you’re in Zakopane staring at screens, you’re doing it wrong. The 9-star rating makes sense once you realize this place just does what it promises really well, without the pretense you get at some of the flashier spots closer to the center.
