VisitZakopane – Szarotka Apartment

You know what caught me off guard about Szarotka? Walking up Generała Boruty-Spiechowicza street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place – but this apartment actually has character. The building sits in this quieter part of Zakopane where you’re not dodging tour groups every five minutes, and I mean that in the best way possible. You can still hear the occasional horse-drawn carriage clip-clopping by (yeah, they’re still a thing here), but it’s not the chaos you get closer to Krupówki.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s grandmother fixed it up with actual care, not some corporate renovation team. The wooden details remind you you’re in the Tatras – there’s this lived-in mountain vibe that honestly beats those sterile hotel chains. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that “we’ll need three forms of ID and your firstborn” nonsense. The folks running it seem to actually know Zakopane, which… well, you’d be surprised how rare that is these days. They pointed me toward Gubałówka for the cable car, but also mentioned this little trail behind the cemetery that most tourists never find – that kind of local intel you can’t Google.

Here’s the thing about the location that took me a day to appreciate: you’re actually positioned perfectly between the main drag and the residential areas where real life happens. Five minutes one way gets you to all the oscypek vendors and tourist madness on Krupówki, but five minutes the other direction and you’re watching locals tend their gardens with the mountains just… right there. Parking isn’t the nightmare it is in central Zakopane either – I mean, it’s not luxury by any stretch, but you won’t spend twenty minutes circling blocks. The 7-out-of-10 rating feels about right; it’s not going to blow your mind with fancy amenities, but it does what it promises without pretending to be something it’s not. If you’re the type who needs a spa and room service, look elsewhere. But if you want a genuine base for exploring the Tatras without breaking the bank or dealing with bus tour breakfast crowds, Szarotka delivers on that mountain town authenticity that’s getting harder to find.
