You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from the Hrabia Apartment when I first walked up Grunwaldzka Street – honestly, the building looks pretty standard from the outside. But here’s the thing about Zakopane: sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t scream for attention, and this VisitZakopane spot is actually a perfect example of that.
The apartment itself has this lived-in feel that I really appreciated – not in a worn-down way, but like someone actually thought about how people use a space. The kitchen had proper coffee cups (not those tiny hotel ones), and there’s enough counter space to actually spread out your groceries from the Tesco down the street. I mean, it’s not fancy – we’re talking solid 3-star territory here – but everything worked, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed. The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress, and honestly, after long days hiking around Gubałówka or wandering through the Old Town, that’s what matters. The bathroom was clean and had decent water pressure, though I’ll warn you the shower is one of those European setups where you really need to keep the curtain tucked in or you’ll flood the floor.
What I really liked about this place is the location – you’re close enough to walk to Krupówki Street when you want that touristy buzz (it’s maybe a 10-minute stroll), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the crowds and noise every time you step outside. Grunwaldzka is actually pretty quiet in the evenings, which was perfect for us since we were doing early morning hikes. There’s a decent bakery just around the corner where you can grab fresh bread and pastries – the locals line up there around 7 AM, so you know it’s good. Parking was surprisingly straightforward too; there’s street parking that’s not too competitive if you’re not visiting during peak ski season. The whole check-in process was smooth – they actually met us at the apartment instead of making us hunt down some office, which I always appreciate when you’re traveling with luggage and just want to get settled. Look, this isn’t going to be the highlight of your trip or anything, but it’s exactly what you want from a base in Zakopane: clean, functional, and positioned so you can actually experience the town without breaking the bank or dealing with resort hotel nonsense.
