Honestly, when I first pulled up to Apartament Szampański on Tetmajera street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place – but you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. The building sits on one of those classic Zakopane streets where you can actually hear the mountain wind through the trees instead of just traffic noise, which is getting harder to find these days.
What really won me over was how the place manages to feel both properly Polish and genuinely comfortable without trying too hard. The apartment itself has that lived-in quality that makes you want to kick off your shoes immediately – none of that sterile hotel vibe where you’re afraid to touch anything. The kitchen actually works (I mean, really works, not just for show), which is perfect because let’s be honest, eating out for every meal in Zakopane can get expensive fast. Plus there’s something satisfying about making your morning coffee while looking out at the Tatras, even if they’re partially hidden behind the neighbor’s roof.
The location is one of those “locals know” spots – close enough to Krupówki that you can walk to all the tourist stuff when you want to, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the crowds of people taking selfies outside your window at 7 AM. Parking was surprisingly straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven in Zakopane during ski season will tell you is basically a minor miracle. I actually ended up chatting with the neighbors a few times (they’re the type who’ll give you hiking recommendations if you ask nicely), and the whole street has this quiet, residential feel that makes you sleep better than you would right in the center of town. The check-in was refreshingly normal – no complicated key cards or confusing instructions, just straightforward and friendly. Sure, it’s not fancy in that Instagram-perfect way, but there’s something to be said for a place that just works well and doesn’t make a big deal about it. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, and you don’t need someone folding your towels into swan shapes, this is exactly the kind of spot that makes Zakopane feel like home for a few days.
