You know what really struck me about VIP Apartamenty Stara Polana? It’s that perfect sweet spot where you get proper apartment-style space without feeling like you’re staying in someone’s weird cousin’s spare room. The building sits right on Nowotarska – and if you know Zakopane at all, you’ll appreciate that this puts you close enough to the action without being stuck in the tourist mayhem that swallows up Krupówki street during peak season.
I mean, let’s be honest about Zakopane – it can get absolutely mental in summer and winter high season. But this place actually gives you room to breathe. The apartments themselves are genuinely spacious (not that fake “spacious” you see in hotel marketing), with proper kitchens that you’d actually want to use. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because, well, the local restaurants can get pricey and honestly? Sometimes you just want your coffee the way you like it. The whole setup feels more like borrowing a friend’s well-appointed flat than staying in typical hotel accommodation. Parking was straightforward too – something that’s worth mentioning because finding a spot in central Zakopane can be a proper nightmare, especially when the mountain crowds descend.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know their stuff about the area without being pushy about it. When I asked about hiking routes up to Morskie Oko, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – they actually knew which trails would be packed and which times to avoid the worst crowds. The four-star rating feels right; it’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but everything works properly and feels thoughtfully put together. The location means you can walk to the main drag when you want that whole Zakopane experience (the oscypek cheese, the horse carriages, all of it), but you can also easily escape to quieter corners of town or catch transport up to the serious hiking trails. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning a longer trip where having actual apartment amenities would matter – which, let’s face it, is most trips to this part of the Tatras if you’re doing it right.
