You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Villa z widokiem na Giewont – honestly, the name alone tells you everything you need to know, but seeing that actual view of Giewont peak from the terrace still caught me off guard. The place sits right on Rysulówka street in Kościelisko, which is honestly one of those perfect spots where you’re close enough to Zakopane’s madness (about 10 minutes by car) but far enough away that you can actually hear the wind in the trees instead of tour buses rumbling past at 7 AM.
The owners clearly know what they’re doing – this isn’t some cookie-cutter mountain hotel trying to be everything to everyone. It’s got that lived-in feel where someone actually thought about how you’d want to spend your morning coffee, which is why there are these little covered nooks on different levels of the building where you can sit even when it’s drizzling. The rooms are what I’d call “mountain modern” – clean lines but with those thick wooden beams that remind you where you are, and the beds are actually comfortable (I mean, after a day hiking around Gubałówka, that matters more than fancy marble bathrooms). Speaking of which, the bathrooms are perfectly fine, nothing Instagram-worthy but hot water that doesn’t run out and decent water pressure, which honestly is more than you can say for some places around here.
What really sets this place apart is how the staff just… gets it. They’ll tell you which trails are muddy after yesterday’s rain, or that the restaurant down the road stops serving food at 8 PM sharp (learned that one the hard way elsewhere). Parking is right there – no dragging your bags up some impossible hill – and they’ve got this casual way of checking you in that makes you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s place rather than going through some corporate hotel routine. The whole area gets pretty quiet after dark, which is either perfect or boring depending on what you’re after, but there’s something nice about falling asleep to complete silence and waking up to that view of the Tatras. I stayed here in both summer and late fall, and honestly, the autumn visit was better – fewer crowds on the trails, those incredible colors on the mountainsides, and the rates are lower too. Just pack layers because the weather changes fast up here, and don’t expect to get much cell signal if you wander too far from the main road, which might actually be a feature, not a bug.
