Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Villa Rocky View 2 in Stara Lesna – I mean, the name sounds a bit like someone just threw words together, right? But wow, was I wrong. This place sits right in the heart of this tiny Slovak village, and once you’re there, you sort of understand why it earned that perfect 10 rating. The building itself has this understated elegance that fits perfectly with the mountain backdrop, and you know what really struck me? The silence. Not the eerie kind, but that deep, peaceful quiet you only get when you’re properly away from everything.
The location is actually brilliant if you know anything about the High Tatras area. Stara Lesna is one of those villages that most tourists zoom past on their way to the bigger resorts, but locals will tell you it’s perfectly positioned – you’re literally minutes from Tatranská Lomnica by car, close enough to Poprad for the train connections, but far enough out that you won’t hear traffic at night. I stayed in late September, and the morning views from my room were incredible – proper mountain panoramas without the summer crowds. The staff clearly know their stuff too; they pointed me toward some hiking trails I never would have found otherwise, including this amazing route that connects to the cable car system without having to deal with the main tourist parking areas.
What really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail – and I mean the stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling. The parking is right there (no schlepping luggage up hills), the wifi actually works throughout the building, and they’ve got this fantastic breakfast setup that includes local specialties alongside the usual continental spread. The rooms themselves feel properly Slovak without being kitschy – solid wood furniture, good linens, and those thick walls that keep everything quiet. I’ll be honest, the shower pressure could be better, but that’s pretty typical for this region. The real gem is the common areas where you can sit with a coffee and just watch the mountains change color as the day progresses. If you’re planning to explore the Tatras properly – whether for hiking, skiing, or just wanting to experience this part of Slovakia without staying in some massive resort – Villa Rocky View 2 is exactly the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. Plus, at this rating level, you know you’re not taking a gamble on your accommodation.
