Villa & Restaurant Levoslav House
You know what caught me off guard about Villa & Restaurant Levoslav House? Walking up to this place on General Magheru street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s tucked right into the old town chaos where half the buildings look like they’re held together by centuries of paint and good intentions. But then you step inside and it’s like someone took all the best parts of staying at your sophisticated Romanian aunt’s house and upgraded everything just enough to make it properly comfortable.
The location is actually pretty brilliant once you figure out the old town’s rhythm. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Little Square (Piața Mică) – and I mean actually two minutes, not travel-website-two-minutes – but far enough down General Magheru that you don’t get the constant rumble of tour groups stumbling over cobblestones at 7 AM. The restaurant downstairs is legitimately good, which matters more than you’d think because finding decent food in Sibiu’s old town can be hit or miss, especially if you’re not up for schnitzel every night. I ended up eating there three times during my stay, partly because I’m lazy but mostly because their papanași (traditional Romanian doughnuts) were honestly some of the best I’ve had in the country.
What really sold me on this place was the attention to small stuff that actually affects your stay. The rooms have proper blackout curtains – not those flimsy hotel curtains that let in every streetlight – and the beds are firm enough that you’re not sinking into a marshmallow but soft enough that you’re not sleeping on a monastery cot. The WiFi actually works throughout the building, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many “historic charm” places in old European towns treat internet like an afterthought. Parking can be a bit of a dance since it’s the old town and all, but they’ll sort you out with directions to nearby spots that won’t break the bank. The front desk folks genuinely know the area well – they steered me toward this tiny wine cellar about five minutes away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and away from some tourist trap near the cathedral that apparently serves microwaved goulash to unsuspecting visitors.
The whole place feels like it’s run by people who actually care about hospitality rather than just collecting booking fees. Check-in was smooth, they remembered my name the next day, and when I mentioned I was interested in hiking up to the Dumbrava Sibiului Natural Park, they had actual trail maps and bus schedules ready to go. It’s got that sweet spot vibe where you feel like you’re staying somewhere with character and local flavor, but you’re not sacrificing modern comforts or dealing with temperamental plumbing. For a 4-star place with a 9.2 rating, it actually lives up to the hype – which honestly doesn’t happen as often as you’d hope when you’re booking places online.
