Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Villa La Roca – the address on Pod Blachówką street doesn’t exactly scream luxury, you know? But then you actually see this place tucked into the hillside, and it’s like stumbling onto a secret that only the locals seem to know about. The garden alone made me stop and just… breathe for a minute. It’s not one of those perfectly manicured hotel landscapes that look fake – this feels more like someone’s grandmother spent decades nurturing these flower beds and herb patches, then decided to share them with the world.
The spa situation here is actually legit, which surprised me because a lot of smaller Polish hotels just slap “spa” on their name and call it a day. I mean, they’ve got this whole setup with treatments that use local mountain herbs, and the massage therapist I had – Magda, I think – knew exactly what she was doing with my shoulders after all that hiking around Zakopane. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, nothing revolutionary but comfortable beds and those little touches that show someone cares. The bathroom in my room had this amazing rainfall shower head, and honestly, after spending days tromping around the Tatras, that hot water pressure was basically heaven. One thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, maybe ask for a room facing the garden rather than the street side. Pod Blachówką isn’t exactly a highway, but there’s enough local traffic in the mornings to wake you up if you’re sensitive to that stuff.
What really got me about Villa La Roca is how the staff actually knows the area – like, really knows it. When I mentioned wanting to find some good pierogi that wasn’t tourist trap nonsense, the front desk guy (I think his name was Tomasz?) gave me directions to this tiny place in Kościelisko village center that I never would’ve found otherwise. And parking? No stress whatsoever, which anyone who’s driven around this part of Poland in summer will tell you is basically a miracle. The whole place just feels… authentic, I guess. It’s fancy enough that you feel like you’re treating yourself, but not so polished that you feel like you’re staying in some corporate chain where every surface has been focus-grouped to death. If you’re planning to use this as a base for exploring the Tatra Mountains – and honestly, why else would you be in Kościelisko – the location works perfectly. You’re close enough to all the trailheads and cable cars, but far enough from the Zakopane crowds that you can actually relax when you get back. Plus, that 9 rating they’ve got? Yeah, I can see why people keep coming back here.
