What really gets me about this place is how the staff actually seems to know Poiana Brasov inside and out. They’ll tell you which trails are less crowded (locals hit Lupului early, tourists stick to the main runs), or where to grab decent coffee that isn’t tourist-trap expensive – there’s this little spot down toward the gondola station that hardly anyone knows about. The rooms are honestly what you’d expect from a good 3-star mountain place, but they nail the details that matter when you’re tired from skiing all day. Hot water pressure is solid, the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up sore, and – this might sound weird – but the blackout curtains actually work, which is clutch when you want to sleep in after a late night. I stayed in February during peak season and never heard much noise from other guests, though you do get the occasional rumble from the snow plows super early in the morning.

The location is actually pretty perfect if you think about it – you’re far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can walk back to something that feels peaceful, but close enough that you’re not hiking forever with your ski gear. Takes maybe eight minutes to walk to the gondola base, and there’s decent parking if you’re driving up from Brasov (which, let’s be honest, most people do). The whole setup just feels right for what Poiana Brasov is – not some glitzy resort destination, but a proper mountain town where people come to ski, eat well, and not overthink things. That 8.9 rating makes total sense once you’re there for a few days. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers on everything that actually matters when you’re in the mountains.
