The building itself has this charming old-world Romanian feel without being stuffy about it, and the garden (which, let’s face it, is really why you’re here) is actually spectacular. I mean, we’re talking about proper flower beds, winding paths, and those lovely covered seating areas where you can actually hear yourself think – which is saying something since you’re literally steps away from the train station.

Speaking of that location on Strada Garii – yeah, the name literally means “Station Street” – you might worry about noise, but honestly, it’s not bad at all. The trains aren’t constant, and there’s something oddly romantic about the occasional distant whistle. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned for exploring Avrig, which most people just pass through on their way to Sibiu, but they’re missing out. The staff here actually knows the area – like really knows it, not just the tourist handbook version. They pointed me toward this fantastic little hiking trail that starts practically behind the hotel and winds up through the hills. You’d never find it on your own, but it’s absolutely worth the muddy boots.

The rooms are clean and comfortable in that unpretentious way that just works. Nothing fancy, but the beds are actually decent (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms are properly updated. What really got me was the breakfast – they serve it in this sun-drenched room that looks out over the garden, and it’s not your typical hotel buffet situation. More like what a Romanian grandmother would put together if she was trying to impress you, complete with local honey and homemade preserves. The coffee’s strong enough to wake the dead, which I appreciated after those late evenings spent chatting with other guests on the garden terrace. There’s something about this place that just makes people linger and actually talk to each other – maybe it’s the garden setting, or maybe it’s just that the whole vibe is so relaxed you can’t help but slow down.
