The address made it sound like it was stuck in the middle of nowhere in Vulcan commune, but you know what? Sometimes being a bit removed from the chaos is exactly what you need. The drive from Braşov city takes about 20 minutes through some pretty decent mountain scenery, and once you’re there, you realize why this place has that ridiculous 9.9 rating.

The thing that got me right away was how quiet it actually is. I mean, you can hear the wind through the trees and not much else – no traffic, no construction noise, none of that urban soundtrack you forget you’re carrying around in your head. The staff at check-in were genuinely friendly (not that scripted hotel politeness), and they knew the area well enough to give me real recommendations for hiking trails nearby. The rooms themselves feel more like a mountain retreat than a standard hotel – there’s this mix of modern comfort with rustic touches that somehow doesn’t feel forced or overdone. My room had these great views of the surrounding forest, and honestly, I spent way too much time just sitting by the window with my morning coffee.

What really impressed me was the attention to details that actually matter when you’re traveling. The Wi-Fi works properly throughout the property (tested it from the garden area), there’s plenty of parking without having to play musical cars with other guests, and the breakfast spread includes local stuff alongside the usual hotel fare. The location is perfect if you’re planning to explore the Carpathians – you’re close enough to hiking trails and local attractions without being right in the tourist crowds. I stayed there during late spring when the weather was still a bit unpredictable, and the place felt cozy even when it was drizzling outside. The common areas have this lived-in comfort that makes you want to hang out rather than just hide in your room. It’s the kind of place where you end up chatting with other guests over dinner because everyone’s genuinely relaxed. Sure, you’ll need a car to get around easily, but that’s true for most places in this part of Romania anyway. For a 4-star place, Vila Lac delivers way more than you’d expect – it’s got that sweet spot of being professional without being stuffy, comfortable without being generic.
