Rîu de Mori is perfectly positioned if you’re exploring the Retezat Mountains or the Corvin Castle – you’re close enough to day-trip easily but far enough away to avoid the tourist crowds. The staff actually know the area, too, which is rarer than you’d think. They’ll point you toward hiking trails that aren’t in the guidebooks and little family restaurants where you can get proper mici without paying tourist prices. I mean, there’s something to be said for a place where the person at the front desk gets genuinely excited when you ask about local recommendations instead of just handing you a generic pamphlet. The breakfast spread is solid – not fancy, but everything’s fresh and there’s always something that feels properly Romanian alongside the usual continental fare. Parking’s easy (always a relief when you’re road-tripping), and the whole place has this peaceful evening vibe once the sun starts setting behind the mountains.
