You know what struck me first about Vila Alba? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – Strada Făgetului – that honestly feels more like a neighborhood secret than a tourist zone. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the medieval center of Brașov, but the vibe here is completely different. No crowds, no tour buses rumbling by at 7 AM, just this peaceful tree-lined street where locals actually live.
The place itself has that understated Romanian charm that’s hard to fake. It’s a 3-star property, sure, but whoever runs this place clearly gives a damn – and that 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there. The rooms are spotless without feeling sterile, if that makes sense. I loved the little touches, like actually decent coffee in the room (not that powdered stuff) and windows that open properly so you can get some of that crisp mountain air. The shower pressure was surprisingly good too, which honestly matters more than fancy marble when you’ve been hiking around Tâmpa Hill all day. Speaking of which, you can actually see the hill from some of the upper rooms – not a bad view to wake up to.
What really sold me on this place was how the staff treated it like their own home. The woman at reception knew exactly which tram to take to get to the Postăvaru cable car (number 20, by the way, saves you a decent walk), and she actually drew me a little map showing the shortcut through the park to get to the Black Church. That’s the kind of local knowledge you just can’t get from those big chain hotels near the main square. Plus, parking here is actually free and easy – try finding that anywhere close to the old town. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after dinner, which some people might find boring, but I thought it was perfect for getting a good night’s sleep before exploring. The only tiny downside? The Wi-Fi gets a bit spotty on the third floor, but honestly, you’re in Brașov – go outside and look at the mountains instead of your phone.
