VERACI Apartments
You know what struck me first about VERACI Apartments? The address might say Strada Plopilor, but you’re literally a two-minute walk from the heart of Sibiu’s Old Town – I mean, you can actually hear the church bells from Evangelical Cathedral in the morning, which is either charming or slightly annoying depending on how late you stayed up exploring the cobblestone streets. The building itself sits on this quiet residential street that feels authentically Romanian, not touristy at all, though honestly the entrance is a bit understated so don’t expect grand hotel lobby vibes.
What really gets me about this place is how it manages to feel like you’re staying in someone’s actual home (which, let’s face it, you sort of are) while still being properly set up for travelers. The apartment I stayed in had this mix of modern amenities and local character that you don’t usually find in cookie-cutter hotels – thick walls that actually keep the sound out, decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and a kitchen that’s genuinely useful if you want to grab some of that amazing Romanian cheese from the market near Piața Mare and have breakfast in. The bathroom was small but functional, and the shower pressure was surprisingly good for an older building. I will say the stairs can be a bit of a workout if you’re on the upper floors, but that’s pretty standard for this part of Sibiu.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Sibiu like locals do rather than just hitting the main tourist spots. You’re close enough to walk to the famous “eyes of the city” rooftops and the Bridge of Lies in about five minutes, but far enough from the main square that you won’t deal with the evening crowds or street performers going until midnight. There’s this little bakery around the corner that opens early – the owner doesn’t speak much English but makes incredible cozonac – and you’re actually closer to some of the better restaurants that locals frequent rather than the tourist traps. Parking can be tricky in the old town area, but the hosts are pretty good about giving you the real scoop on where to leave your car without getting ticketed. The 9.3 rating makes sense to me because while it’s not luxury accommodation, it delivers exactly what it promises: a clean, comfortable base in an unbeatable location with hosts who clearly care about the experience. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re discovering something rather than just checking into another generic room.
