You know what? I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first pulled up to Tatry Top Apartamenty Granitica on ul. Mariana Zająca – the name’s a mouthful and the building looks pretty standard from the outside. But here’s the thing about Zakopane: sometimes the best spots are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the street.
What actually won me over was how ridiculously well-placed this place is. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from Krupówki (that’s the main pedestrian strip where all the action happens), but you’re tucked away on this quieter side street where you can actually sleep at night. The apartments themselves are proper apartments, not those weird hotel-apartment hybrids where nothing quite works right. The kitchenettes are small but functional – I managed to make decent coffee every morning, which is honestly all I needed. The mountain views from some of the upper floors are genuinely spectacular, especially if you catch that early morning light hitting the Tatras. Fair warning though: if you’re here during peak season (July-August or winter ski season), book way ahead because locals know about this spot too.
The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, which I realize sounds cliché but it’s actually true here. Check-in was straightforward – no fancy lobby nonsense, just practical and efficient. Parking can be a bit tight (welcome to Zakopane), but there’s usually something available on the street or nearby. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re so close to the center. The walk to the main square takes maybe eight minutes, ten if you’re stopping to look at the traditional wooden architecture along the way. And honestly, for a 3-star place, the cleanliness and maintenance were spot-on – everything worked, the Wi-Fi was solid, and the beds were comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the Tatras all night. It’s not fancy, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re spending your days hiking or exploring the mountains and just need a solid base camp in town.
