Poronin itself is this charming little town that most tourists blow through on their way to Zakopane, but it’s got character – traditional wooden houses, a few family-run restaurants, and access to some of the less crowded hiking trails. From Tatras Residence, you can walk to the train station (there’s still a historic narrow-gauge railway that runs to Zakopane), or drive into the national park without dealing with the main town’s traffic. The evening quiet is something else entirely – no late-night party crowds, just the occasional sound of the train and maybe some local kids playing football in the street. I’ll be honest, the breakfast could use a bit more variety, but what they do serve is fresh and local.
