TATRA SUITES Boutique Suites Deforte Star View 301
So I stumbled across TATRA SUITES on Sobotské námestie in Poprad, and honestly – this place surprised me in the best way possible. You know how boutique hotels can sometimes feel a bit pretentious? Well, this one actually gets it right. The Deforte Star View suite I stayed in (number 301) lives up to its name, and I mean that literally – you can see the High Tatras from the windows, which is sort of the whole point of being in Poprad anyway.
The thing about this hotel is that it sits right in the heart of the old town square, which sounds like it’d be noisy, but it’s actually pretty peaceful. Sobotské námestie isn’t exactly Times Square – it’s more like that charming European square where locals grab coffee and tourists pause to take photos of the colorful buildings. The suite itself feels more like a high-end apartment than a hotel room, with this really well-thought-out layout that doesn’t waste space. I particularly loved the little kitchen area – not that I cooked much, but having a proper fridge and the option to make coffee without those terrible hotel packets was honestly a game-changer. The bathroom has this rain shower that actually has decent water pressure (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in older European buildings), and they’ve managed to squeeze in a bathtub without making the whole space feel cramped.
What really sold me on this place though was the attention to detail that you don’t expect from a four-star hotel. The staff actually remembered my name after one conversation, parking was sorted without the usual runaround, and check-in felt more like being welcomed into someone’s home than processing through a hotel lobby. The location is perfect if you’re planning to explore the Tatras – you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the train station that takes you up to Štrbské Pleso, and there’s this little bakery around the corner that does incredible lokše (trust me on this one). I stayed in late spring when the mountain hiking season was just getting started, so the town had this perfect energy without being overrun with tourists. The suite stays cool even when it’s warm outside, which was a relief after spending days hiking. Honestly, for a boutique hotel in Slovakia, this place punches way above its weight class – it’s got that 9-star rating for good reason, and I’d absolutely stay here again.
