When I first pulled up to 5b Jaszczurówka-Bory, I was honestly a bit skeptical because it’s tucked away from all the main tourist chaos in Zakopane’s center, but that turned out to be exactly what made it special. You know how sometimes you find those gems that feel like locals actually live there? This is one of those spots.

The location is actually genius once you get it. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from Krupówki street (that’s the main pedestrian drag where all the tourists congregate), but you’re in this quieter residential area that feels authentically Polish mountain town. I mean, you can still hear the occasional horse-drawn carriage clip-clopping by – yeah, that’s still a thing here – but without the constant buzz of souvenir shops and pierogi stands. The apartments themselves have this clean, modern vibe that doesn’t try too hard to be rustic, which I appreciated. Some places here go overboard with the whole highland cottage aesthetic, but Tatra Square keeps it simple and functional. The kitchenettes are actually usable (novel concept, right?), and I found myself making coffee there most mornings instead of hunting down a café.

What really sold me was how the staff handled things – check-in was smooth, they actually knew the area well enough to give decent hiking recommendations, and when I mentioned I was planning to hit Morskie Oko, they told me about the earlier bus times that most tourists miss. That kind of local knowledge matters when you’re trying to beat the crowds to the lake. The whole setup feels more like staying in someone’s well-appointed apartment than a sterile hotel room, which works perfectly for Zakopane’s laid-back mountain vibe. Parking was straightforward too, which is honestly a relief in this town where finding a spot near the center can turn into an Olympic event. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to experience Zakopane more like a temporary resident than a rushed tourist checking boxes.
