You’re close enough to the main ski areas – the slopes are practically right there – but you’re not dealing with the crowds and inflated prices of the bigger resort towns. The staff actually knows your name after a day or two, which is refreshing. I stayed during peak season in February, and while the place was busy, it never felt chaotic. The check-in was smooth, parking was available (thank god, because finding a spot in ski country can be a nightmare), and the whole vibe was more “mountain retreat” than “tourist factory.”

What really sells me on this place is the attention to practical details that most hotels just… don’t think about. The ski storage area is heated – seriously, putting on warm boots in the morning instead of frozen ones is a game-changer. The restaurant serves local food that actually tastes local, not some watered-down version for tourists. I had the best oscypek cheese here, and the bartender made a point of explaining which local beers to try. The rooms are well-insulated too, which matters when you’re this close to the mountains and temperatures drop. I could hear some movement in the hallways during busy evening hours, but nothing that kept me awake. The Wi-Fi worked consistently, even though I was half-expecting mountain internet to be spotty.

Honestly, the 9-rating makes sense once you spend a few days here. It’s not flashy or trying too hard to impress – it just does everything right without making a big deal about it. If you’re looking for a spa resort with marble lobbies, this isn’t your spot. But if you want a solid base for exploring the Tatras, with owners who clearly care about the experience and enough local character to feel authentic, Sun&Ski Maciejówka delivers. I’d definitely come back, and I’m already thinking about a summer visit to see what the hiking season brings to this area.
