You know what caught me off guard about Studio 35 Busteni? The name makes it sound like some trendy urban loft, but honestly, this place is tucked away on Strada Făgetului in a way that feels almost secret. I mean, Buşteni isn’t exactly a household name unless you’re into mountain towns, but that’s actually the whole point – you’re right in the Carpathians without the tourist circus you’d get in Braşov or Sinaia.
The studio setup is clever, really clever. When they say 4-star, they’re not talking about some sprawling resort with marble lobbies – this is more like if your design-savvy friend had a mountain retreat and actually knew how to make small spaces work. The kitchenette isn’t just for show (I actually used it, which you can’t say about most hotel setups), and the whole place has this clean, Nordic vibe that somehow doesn’t feel out of place against the Romanian mountain backdrop. What really got me was the attention to details that matter – proper blackout curtains because mountain mornings are bright, decent wifi that actually works when you need to upload those hiking photos, and thank god, really good water pressure. The parking situation is straightforward too, which if you’ve driven Romania’s mountain roads, you’ll appreciate not having to stress about where to leave your car.
Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t really capture – Strada Făgetului is quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep (no 6am garbage trucks or late-night revelers), but you’re still close enough to walk to the decent restaurants in town. The train station is maybe ten minutes on foot, which is perfect if you’re doing that scenic route from Bucharest, and honestly, the whole area feels like what mountain towns probably looked like before they got discovered by Instagram. The 9.9 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, just doing the mountain studio thing really, really well. During shoulder season especially, when the summer hikers have cleared out but the snow hasn’t hit yet, this place has that perfect quiet mountain energy that makes you want to extend your stay.
