The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know the area. Hrabušice is this tiny village that most people just drive through on their way to the bigger attractions, but staying here puts you right in the sweet spot. You’re about 20 minutes from Spišská Nová Ves if you need proper shops or restaurants, but close enough to the park entrances that you can hit the famous ladder trails (those metal ladders bolted into the gorge walls – they’re incredible) without dealing with the parking nightmare that happens later in the day. The staff really knows their stuff about the hiking routes too, which is refreshing. They’ll actually tell you which trails are muddy after rain instead of just handing you a generic map.

What really won me over was the attention to practical details that matter when you’re doing serious outdoor stuff. The rooms have proper drying areas for wet gear – not just a tiny bathroom hook, but actual space to spread out your hiking boots and rain jackets. The breakfast starts early enough that you can fuel up and be on the trail by 7 AM, beating the tour groups. And here’s something you don’t expect – the Wi-Fi actually works well throughout the building, which is sort of a miracle in this part of Slovakia. The restaurant serves hearty Slovak mountain food (think goulash and dumplings) that hits perfectly after a long day scrambling up gorges, though I’ll be honest, it’s not winning any culinary awards. But that’s not really the point here. The 9-out-of-10 rating makes sense when you consider what this place is designed for – it’s a proper base camp for exploring one of Europe’s most underrated national parks, run by people who actually understand what outdoor enthusiasts need. The whole operation feels authentic and unpretentious, which honestly is getting harder to find these days.
