You know what caught me off guard about Słoneczne Wzgórze? The name literally means “Sunny Hill” and it’s not just marketing fluff – this place actually sits on this gentle slope that catches the morning light perfectly. I mean, when you’re staying at Górnicza 28/8, you’re basically tucked into one of those quieter residential pockets of Kowary that most tourists never discover. It’s far enough from the main drag that you won’t hear late-night revelers stumbling around, but honestly, you can still walk to the town center in about ten minutes if you want proper restaurants or that little bakery everyone raves about.

The thing that really sets this place apart – and I’m not just saying this because of that impressive 9.4 rating – is how the owners actually seem to care about the details that matter. The check-in was refreshingly smooth (none of that awkward waiting around while they hunt for your reservation), and they’ve got this knack for anticipating what you’ll need without being pushy about it. The rooms have that lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake, you know? Not sterile hotel generic, but not trying-too-hard boutique either. Actually, the windows are probably the best feature – they open wide (thank god, because some of these older buildings can get stuffy) and the cross-breeze situation is perfect for those warm summer evenings when the valley holds onto the heat.

What I really appreciated was the local knowledge they shared without me even asking. The woman at reception mentioned this hiking trail that starts basically from their back garden – well, sort of from the street behind them – that connects to the Karkonosze foothills. It’s not on any of the tourist maps I’d seen, but it turned out to be this gorgeous morning walk that beats fighting crowds at the more famous spots. Plus, parking here is actually manageable, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Kowary’s narrow streets during peak season will tell you is no small miracle. I’d definitely come back, especially in early fall when the tourist rush dies down but the weather’s still decent for exploring the Sudeten region properly.
