Skylark Central Aparthotel
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of aparthotels across Europe, and honestly? Most of them feel like they’re trying too hard to be everything to everyone. But Skylark Central on Kogălniceanu Street – well, this one actually gets it right. The moment you walk into the lobby, there’s this sense that someone who actually travels designed this place. It’s got that perfect balance of feeling residential but still polished enough that you’re not wondering if you accidentally booked someone’s spare room.
The location is what really sold me though. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the old town walls, which means you can stumble back from dinner at Crama Domnească without calling a taxi, but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear every drunk tourist singing at 2 AM. The building itself sits on one of those tree-lined streets that feels properly Romanian – not the touristy stuff, but where actual people live and work. I mean, there’s a little bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM, and the smell of fresh bread drifting through the windows was honestly better than any alarm clock. The apartments themselves are spacious in a way that makes you forget you’re in a city center – proper kitchens with decent appliances (I actually cooked pasta one night, imagine that), and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you wrestled with a marshmallow all night.
What really impressed me was the attention to the small stuff. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, even in the stairwells. The soundproofing is solid – I could barely hear the tram on Republicii Boulevard, and that’s saying something. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no upselling or lengthy explanations about facilities I’d never use. The staff clearly know Brașov well; when I asked about hiking trails up to Tampa Mountain, they didn’t just point me toward the obvious cable car route but mentioned the back trail that starts near the Fortress Church. You know what else? They have proper parking included, which if you’ve ever tried to park near Piața Sfatului during festival season, you’ll understand is basically gold. The only tiny criticism I’d have is that the elevator’s a bit slow, but honestly, that’s nitpicking when everything else works so well. This isn’t one of those places where you’re constantly making little compromises – it’s the kind of aparthotel where you actually relax and think about extending your stay.
