You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Sibiu Lotus Apartments on Strada Regele Ferdinand – I mean, it’s a 3-star place in what looks like a fairly residential stretch. But honestly, sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that catch you off guard. The building itself has this understated charm that feels more like staying at a well-kept local residence than a typical tourist spot, and after spending a few nights there, I started to realize that’s exactly the point.
What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re still close enough to walk to the old town without breaking a sweat. During the day, you’ll hear the occasional tram rumbling by and locals going about their business, but come evening – especially on weekdays – it’s surprisingly peaceful. The apartments themselves are spacious in that Eastern European way where rooms actually feel like rooms, not cramped hotel boxes. The kitchenettes are properly equipped too, which I appreciated since grocery shopping at the nearby markets became part of my routine (there’s something satisfying about picking up fresh bread and local cheese instead of hunting for overpriced hotel breakfast). The Wi-Fi actually works, the heating keeps up with Sibiu’s unpredictable weather, and – this might sound small but it matters – the shower pressure is solid.
I think what gives this place its 9.2 rating is that it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be fancy about it. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you figure out the city rather than just checking you in and disappearing. They pointed me toward Piața Mică during a quieter morning hour when the light hits the colorful buildings just right, and suggested a couple of local restaurants that I never would have found otherwise. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area – like most of Sibiu’s older neighborhoods – but they help you sort that out too. Look, it’s not going to wow you with marble lobbies or rooftop bars, but if you want a comfortable base for exploring one of Romania’s most charming cities without paying old-town prices, this place delivers. I actually extended my stay by two nights because I wasn’t ready to leave, and that’s not something I do often.
