Haţeg sits right at the edge of some seriously beautiful country, and this hotel gets that. They’re not trying to be your entertainment; they’re your comfortable base camp while you explore the Retezat Mountains or hunt down dinosaur fossils at the nearby Geopark. The location makes sense once you understand the area – you’re perfectly positioned for day trips to Sarmizegetusa Regia (the old Dacian capital) or the Corvin Castle if you don’t mind a bit of driving. But honestly, even if you just want to slow down and enjoy a corner of Romania that hasn’t been overrun by tour groups, this works. The breakfast is solid without being elaborate, parking is easy (trust me, this matters more than you think in these old Romanian towns), and the whole place has this relaxed confidence that comes from knowing they’re doing things right. That 9.6 rating isn’t an accident – it’s what happens when a hotel focuses on the basics and executes them really well.
