You know what struck me first about the Safrano Palace? The name makes it sound way fancier than it actually is – and I mean that in the best possible way. This is a solid 3-star place that sits right on Piața Sfatului, which is basically Brașov’s main square, so you’re literally in the heart of everything. I’m talking about being able to roll out of bed and grab coffee at one of those little cafés that spill onto the cobblestones, or duck into the Black Church when the tour groups aren’t swarming it (early morning or late afternoon, trust me on this).
The thing about staying right on the square is that it’s both a blessing and… well, you’ll hear some street noise, especially during summer when the outdoor terraces are buzzing until late. But honestly, the trade-off is worth it because you’re saving yourself those uphill walks that’ll leave you winded – Brașov’s old town sits in a valley, and most hotels outside the center mean you’re huffing it up those steep streets every time you want to explore. The rooms at Safrano Palace are what you’d expect from a 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent bathrooms, nothing groundbreaking but everything works. I actually appreciated that they didn’t try to over-design everything; sometimes you just want a place to crash after spending the day wandering around Râșnov Citadel or taking that cable car up to Mount Tâmpa.
What really bumps this place up (and probably explains that 8.8 rating) is the staff – they actually seem to know the city beyond just the tourist highlights. The guy at reception told me about this little wine bar tucked away on Strada Republicii that I never would’ve found otherwise, and when I mentioned wanting to day-trip to Bran Castle, he gave me the real talk about timing and crowds instead of just handing me a brochure. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle since you’re right in the pedestrian zone, but they’ll sort you out with directions to nearby spots – just don’t expect it to be free or particularly close. The breakfast situation is decent enough, though if you’re the type who needs a massive spread, you might want to venture out to one of the bakeries on Strada Mureșenilor instead. Look, this isn’t the kind of place you’ll be posting Instagram stories about the lobby, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re actually trying to experience Brașov rather than just pass through it. The location alone makes it worth considering, especially if you’re planning to explore the Saxon churches in the surrounding villages or head up to Poiana Brașov for some hiking.
