You know what struck me first about Rent like home – Bulwary II? The name actually makes sense once you’re there. It’s tucked right on Bulwary Słowackiego, which honestly sounds intimidating if you don’t speak Polish, but it’s just this pleasant tree-lined street that feels way more residential than touristy. I mean, you’re still in Zakopane proper, but you get this sense of stepping back from all the souvenir shop chaos that happens closer to Krupówki Street.

The building itself is pretty straightforward – nothing fancy, but that’s kind of the point. It’s one of those places where the three-star rating feels honest rather than disappointing. The apartments (because that’s really what these are) have this lived-in quality that actually works in their favor. Real kitchens with actual cooking equipment, not just a mini-fridge and a prayer. The beds are decent enough, and here’s something I appreciated – the windows actually open properly, which you’ll want during summer months because Polish mountain evenings can be perfect for natural cooling. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which if you’ve driven through Zakopane’s narrow streets, you’ll understand why that matters.

What really sold me on the location was realizing I could walk to the Tatra Museum in about ten minutes, but more importantly, I was close enough to the cable car stations without being in that tourist bottleneck area. The neighborhood has a few local spots – there’s this small grocery store maybe two blocks away where the prices aren’t completely inflated, and honestly, having a proper kitchen meant I could grab some regional cheese and bread for breakfast instead of paying hotel restaurant prices. The trade-off is that you’re not getting daily housekeeping or a concierge, but that 7 out of 10 rating feels about right – it delivers on what it promises without trying to be something it’s not. If you’re planning to actually explore the Tatras rather than just Instagram them, this kind of base camp approach works really well, especially if you’re staying more than a couple nights.
