But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages, and this little hotel absolutely nailed it.

The location is actually pretty clever if you think about it. Beiuş isn’t on most tourists’ radar (which is honestly part of its charm), but it’s perfectly positioned if you’re exploring the Apuseni Mountains or heading to the thermal baths that this region is quietly famous for. I mean, you’re close enough to feel like you’re in proper Romania – not the touristy bits – but still civilized enough that you can get a decent meal and your phone has signal. The street itself is surprisingly quiet for being so central, though you’ll hear the occasional truck in the early morning if you’re a light sleeper.

What really got me was the attention to detail that you just don’t expect at this price point. The rooms are clean in that “someone actually cares” way, not just the perfunctory hotel housekeeping you usually get. And the staff – well, they seem to genuinely want you to have a good time, which sounds simple but is rarer than you’d think. I had this whole conversation with the front desk about the best route to take up to Stâna de Vale, complete with hand-drawn directions and warnings about which sections get muddy after rain. Try getting that kind of local knowledge from a chain hotel.

The breakfast situation is solid too – nothing fancy, but they do this thing with local honey and fresh bread that honestly made my mornings. Plus, parking is right there and free, which anyone who’s driven around Romanian towns will tell you is worth its weight in gold. I stayed during what I guess was shoulder season in late spring, and the whole place had this relaxed, unhurried vibe that made me want to stick around longer than planned. The 9-star rating it’s got makes total sense once you factor in the price – you’re getting way more value than you’d expect, especially if you’re the kind of traveler who appreciates genuine hospitality over flashy amenities.
