Polana Szymoszkowa Ski Resort – Mountain View Apartments
So I’ve been coming to Zakopane for years, and honestly, finding a place that actually delivers on mountain views without breaking the bank used to be a nightmare. Then someone told me about Polana Szymoszkowa – it’s tucked away on Szymaszkowa street, which most tourists completely miss because they’re all fighting over spots closer to Krupówki. Big mistake on their part, because this place is actually perfect.
The thing about these apartments is they get the location equation right in a way that most places don’t. You’re far enough from the main drag that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling back at 2 AM (trust me, that’s a real problem in central Zakopane), but close enough that you can walk to the lifts without needing a car. The mountain views from the apartments are legitimately stunning – I mean, you wake up and there’s Giewont just sitting there like a postcard, except it’s real and you didn’t pay resort prices for it. The apartments themselves feel more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, which I actually prefer. Full kitchens mean you can grab groceries at the Biedronka down the hill and cook breakfast while staring at the Tatras, or you know, just make coffee at a reasonable hour without hunting for an open café.
What really sold me on this place was the practical stuff that nobody talks about in reviews. Parking is actually included and sufficient – revolutionary concept in Zakopane, I know. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward, none of that “your room might be ready by 4 PM if you’re lucky” nonsense. The building itself is newer construction, so the heating works properly (again, you’d be surprised how often this is an issue in mountain accommodations), and the soundproofing between units is decent. I stayed during peak ski season and barely heard my neighbors. The owners clearly know what they’re doing – there’s a ski storage area that’s actually useful, not just a closet with a boot rack thrown in as an afterthought. And honestly, for a 4-star place with a 9 rating, I was expecting to find some obvious flaw that explained why it wasn’t more expensive, but… there really isn’t one. The location gives you easy access to both Kasprowy Wierch and Gubałówka, the apartments are spacious enough that you won’t go crazy if weather keeps you inside for a day, and the whole setup just works. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax instead of spending your vacation dealing with accommodation headaches, which is sort of the point, right?
