You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first saw Petrodava ONE sitting right on Piața Petrodava – I mean, hotels on main squares can be hit or miss, especially in smaller Romanian cities. But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has this modern glass front that somehow doesn’t clash with Piatra Neamţ’s older architecture, and when you’re standing in the lobby looking out, you’ve got this perfect view of the square where locals actually hang out (not just tourists taking photos).
The rooms are what I’d call “actually comfortable” – you know how some 4-star places try too hard with fancy stuff that doesn’t work? Not here. Everything just… works. The beds are properly firm, the shower has real water pressure, and there’s this subtle attention to details that makes you think someone who travels a lot designed these spaces. I stayed on the third floor and could hear a bit of the square’s activity during the day, but it dies down completely by evening – Piatra Neamţ isn’t exactly a party town, which is honestly refreshing. The staff, well, they’re Romanian-friendly, which means they’re genuinely helpful once you get past the initial formality, and most speak decent English.
What really sold me on this place is how it sits in the city. You’re literally steps from the old town center, and I mean you can walk to the medieval citadel ruins in about ten minutes if you take the path behind the Orthodox church. The Neamț Shopping City is close enough if you need anything practical, but you’re also positioned perfectly for exploring the real gems around here – the Bicaz Gorge is maybe an hour’s drive, and honestly, having a proper hotel to come back to after a day of mountain hiking made all the difference. The restaurant downstairs serves surprisingly good local food (try the ciorbă de burtă if you’re feeling adventurous), and while it’s not groundbreaking, it’s the kind of solid, well-executed Romanian cuisine that hits the spot after a long day. Plus, parking is sorted – they’ve got their own spots, which in a city center location is actually pretty valuable. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since the 8.9 rating isn’t just booking site fluff – it’s earned through those small things that make a difference when you’re actually living in the space for a few days.
