Here’s the thing that really sells this place for me: location, location, location. You can walk to the cable car for Hrebienok in about three minutes, the train station is right there if you want to explore other parts of the High Tatras, and there are several decent restaurants within stumbling distance. Parking’s included, which is honestly a godsend because finding a spot in Starý Smokovec during peak season can be a nightmare. The pension fills up with a mix of Slovak families, German hikers, and the occasional backpacker – it’s got that authentic mountain town vibe without feeling touristy or pretentious. Sure, the WiFi can be spotty and the shower pressure isn’t amazing, but for the price point and the location? It’s honestly hard to beat.
