I’ll be honest – when I first rolled up to Pensjonat Dawidek on Pardalowka Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that catch you off guard. This little guesthouse sits in one of those quietly perfect spots in Zakopane where you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with tour buses rumbling past your window at 7 AM.
The thing about staying here is that it actually feels like staying with people who give a damn about what they’re doing. The owners – and I mean this in the best way – are the kind of folks who’ll remember your name by day two and probably ask how your hike went when you stumble back in the evening. The rooms are what you’d expect for the price point, nothing fancy, but they’re clean and honestly, after a day of tramping around the Tatras, you just want a decent bed and a hot shower that doesn’t run out of water halfway through (which, thank god, doesn’t happen here). The Wi-Fi actually works too, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed in the area.
What really sold me on this place was the breakfast situation – they do this spread of local stuff that changes based on what’s good that week, and I swear the bread comes from that bakery down near the market square. Plus, and this is key if you’re planning to do any serious hiking, they’ll pack you something to take along if you ask nicely the night before. The location is pretty clutch too – you’re maybe a 10-minute walk from Krupówki Street if you want to brave the tourist chaos, but you can also hit some of the trailheads without having to navigate through the town center first. Parking’s not a nightmare either, which anyone who’s tried to park in central Zakopane during summer will appreciate. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and if you’re the type who needs a spa and room service, this probably isn’t your scene. But if you want a solid base for exploring the mountains without breaking the bank, and you appreciate places where the people actually seem happy you’re there, Pensjonat Dawidek gets it right.
