Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Pensiunea Miruna on DN73, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard roadside guesthouse. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you, and this little spot in Moieciu de Jos absolutely did that.
The thing about staying here is that you’re right in the heart of Brașov County’s mountain country, and I mean properly in it – not some sanitized resort version. You wake up to actual cow bells in the distance (which sounds charming until 6 AM, but honestly, it grows on you), and the Bucegi Mountains are just sitting there like they’re posing for your Instagram. The family running the place – and it really feels like staying with a Romanian family – they know exactly which hiking trails to recommend and, more importantly, which ones to avoid if you’re not looking for a full-day adventure. The woman at reception actually drew me a little map to the best viewpoint that most tourists never find, and she was spot-on about the timing too.
What really won me over was the authenticity of it all. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything works, and the beds are actually decent, which isn’t always a given at three-star places. There’s this wonderful smell of wood and something I couldn’t quite place (maybe homemade bread?) that just makes the whole place feel lived-in rather than sterile. The parking situation is straightforward, which matters when you’re driving these mountain roads, and they’ve got this little terrace area where you can sit with a beer in the evening and watch the light change on the peaks. I spent way more time there than I planned to, just… existing, you know?
The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore the area properly. You’re close enough to Bran Castle that you can beat the tour buses there in the morning, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos. Rasnov Citadel is maybe twenty minutes away, and if you’re into the whole Dracula thing (which, let’s face it, is probably why you’re in this part of Romania), you’ve got easy access to all of it without staying in some overpriced place in Brașov itself. Plus, the traditional restaurants in Moieciu de Jos – well, there aren’t many, but the ones that exist serve the kind of hearty Romanian food that makes you understand why people live in mountains.
I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, and if you need a spa or room service, this isn’t your place. But for that 8.9 rating, you’re getting exactly what you want from a Romanian mountain guesthouse – genuine hospitality, stunning surroundings, and that feeling like you’ve discovered something real rather than just another tourist trap. Sometimes that’s worth more than all the fancy amenities in the world.
