Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Sibiu over the years, and honestly? Pensiunea Kristine surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Strada Luceafarului – which, if you know the city at all, is this lovely residential street that’s close enough to everything but far enough from the tourist crowds that you actually get some peace at night. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the old town square, but you won’t hear drunk groups stumbling back from the pubs at 2 AM.
The thing about Kristine is that it feels like someone’s home – because it sort of is. The owner, Maria (I think that’s her name), she’s there most evenings and actually remembers your name by the second day. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place, nothing fancy but everything works properly. The shower has good pressure, which honestly can’t be said for half the guesthouses in this part of Romania. What really got me was the breakfast setup – they’ve got this little dining room that catches the morning light perfectly, and the coffee is actually decent. Not spectacular, but decent enough that I didn’t need to hunt down a café first thing. The local honey they serve comes from somewhere nearby, and you can taste the difference… it’s got this floral thing going on that I’ve never found in supermarket stuff.
Parking was easier than I expected – there’s space right in front most of the time, though I’d probably book ahead if you’re coming during September when the film festival crowds descend on the city. The neighborhood itself is one of those areas where locals actually live, so you’ll see kids playing in the courtyards and old ladies tending their gardens. It’s real life, you know? Not the polished tourist version. If you’re the type who needs to be right in the thick of things, this might feel a bit quiet for you. But if you want to experience Sibiu like someone who actually lives here – walking to the market in the morning, taking evening strolls without dodging tour groups – then this is your spot. The fact that they’ve managed to maintain a 9-star rating tells you something about consistency too. Places like this don’t fake their way to those numbers.
