I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Târgu Jiu over the years, and Pensiunea Infinity on Strada Victoriei is honestly one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. It’s right there at number 26 – easy to spot once you know where you’re going, though I’ll admit the first time I walked past it because the entrance is more understated than you’d expect for a place with a 9.5 rating.

The thing about this pensiunea is that it gets the details right in ways that actually matter. When I checked in, the staff knew I was coming (sounds basic, but you’d be surprised how often that doesn’t happen), and they had this genuine enthusiasm about showing me around – not the rehearsed hotel spiel, but more like they were genuinely proud of the place. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully put together. Everything works properly – the WiFi doesn’t cut out when you’re trying to video call home, the shower has actual water pressure, and honestly, the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that stiff neck you sometimes get from hotel pillows. There’s this attention to cleanliness that goes beyond just changing the sheets, if you know what I mean.

What really sets it apart though is how it sits in the neighborhood. Strada Victoriei isn’t the main tourist strip, so you’re not dealing with crowds or street noise at night, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. I could walk to the city center in about ten minutes, maybe fifteen if I stopped to grab coffee along the way. The area has this lived-in feel – actual locals going about their business, small shops that aren’t just tourist traps, that sort of thing. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven around Romanian city centers will appreciate. The staff actually gave me specific directions to a spot nearby where I could leave the car without worrying about it – that kind of local knowledge you can’t get from a chain hotel. I mean, it’s those little touches that make the difference between a decent stay and one where you feel like you’re actually experiencing the place rather than just passing through. The 4-star rating feels accurate without being pretentious, and honestly, that 9.5 guest rating makes sense once you’ve been there.
