The whole place has this authentic mountain lodge feel that you just can’t fake, probably because the family running it has been doing this for years and actually gives a damn about their guests.

What really gets me is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between rustic charm and actual comfort. The rooms aren’t huge – this is a 3-star place, not some resort – but everything feels intentional and well-maintained. You know what I noticed? The windows are properly sealed (trust me, this matters when you’re up in the mountains and the temperature drops), and the beds are actually comfortable, not those saggy mattresses you sometimes get at family-run places. The traditional Romanian touches are everywhere without being kitschy about it – carved wood details, local textiles, that sort of thing. And the views… well, you’re literally surrounded by the Carpathians, so even if you’re not a morning person, you’ll find yourself getting up just to look outside.

The location is brilliant if you know the area. Moieciu de Sus is perfectly positioned for exploring – you’re close enough to Bran Castle that you can beat the tour bus crowds if you leave early, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos. The hosts (and I mean this in the best way) are the type who’ll sit you down with a coffee and draw you a map of hiking trails that aren’t in any guidebook. They’ll also tell you exactly when to visit Piatra Craiului National Park and which routes to avoid when it’s muddy. Parking is right there – no dragging luggage up three flights of stairs or hunting for a spot on some narrow street. The breakfast is that proper Romanian spread with local cheese and homemade jam, though honestly, the coffee could be stronger. But here’s the thing – places like this are getting harder to find as everything gets corporatized and sanitized. The 9.4 rating isn’t just because it’s pleasant (though it absolutely is), it’s because staying here feels like discovering something real in a world full of cookie-cutter accommodations.
