Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Pensiunea Felyviss on Strada Cloșca – it’s this quiet residential street in Albac that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones hiding in plain sight. The guesthouse sits at number 16, and there’s actually decent parking right there (which, trust me, matters more than you think when you’re hauling luggage after a long drive through the Apuseni Mountains).

What really got me was how the owners – and I mean this in the best way – treat the place like it’s their own home, because well, it sort of is. The rooms are spotless, and I mean that thing where you can tell someone actually cares about the details, not just surface cleaning. The breakfast spread was honestly better than some 4-star places I’ve stayed at, with local cheeses and honey that probably came from somewhere within a few kilometers. You’re right in the heart of Albac here, so you can walk to the village center in maybe five minutes, and if you’re planning to hit the Scarisoara Ice Cave (which you absolutely should), you’re looking at about a 20-minute drive through some pretty spectacular mountain scenery.

The whole area gets busy during summer hiking season, but even then, this street stays pretty quiet – I slept with the windows open and only heard the occasional car and some birds in the morning. What I really appreciated was that the family running it actually knows the area inside and out, so when I asked about hiking trails, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure. They sat down with a local map and showed me which routes were worth the effort and which ones to skip. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there – it’s one of those places where everything just works without any fuss or drama. Sure, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect a spa or room service, but honestly? After a day exploring the mountains around Albac, all you really want is a comfortable bed, a hot shower, and maybe some good conversation over breakfast. Pensiunea Felyviss delivers on all of that, and then some.
